Try-Outs

After one excellent 3 hour session today on the courts, try-outs are complete.  The guys played hard for 3 hours today and did well in several tough tennis and fitness drills.  In my four years as head coach of this program this was by far the best try-out session we've ever had!  The guys rose to the challenge and competed well.  It was great for me to see many of our seniors show leadership and encourage some of our freshmen who are new to the game.  The team unity and encouragement were spectacular out on the courts.  This is going to be a special season.  Congrats to all who tried out for a fantastic effort.  Teams will be posted tomorrow morning by 7:30am outside of my classroom door.  Let's have a great first day of official practice in specific teams tomorrow!  Go Grizz!

Day One!

Day one is in the books!  We had about 23 student-athletes out there today with 5-7 more to still sign up.  30 kids in the program will be the most we've had in 3 years and I'm excited to see what each one brings to the table as we hit the courts tomorrow.  Today the weather was nice, clear, sunny and dry up until 3:20.  Then in typical spring fashion, the rains came.  However, that did not deter us from working hard today.  The guys endured two cycles of a fitness circuit, some shadow footwork drills, sprint relay races, and finished with a timed mile run!  An excellent, hard-working, energized and focused effort by all today.  Tomorrow we hit the courts with dry weather looming.  Looking forward to seeing what the guys will do on the court tomorrow over the course over 3 hours.  If we get a full practice in tomorrow, teams will be made and posted Wednesday morning at school.

Almost a week to go!

We are 9 days away from the start of the 2013 spring tennis campaign at MHS.  I anticipate more student-athletes to try out for tennis this year than in my previous 3 years as head coach.  Exciting times ahead this season and in the next few years for the Grizzlies!  Looking forward to another great spring season with a team loaded with talented seniors!  Can't wait for February 25th to get here!

Informational Meeting

We will be having a pre-season meeting this Tuesday, February 5th @ 3:30pm in Room 225 at MHS.  All players interested in trying out this season will need to be at the meeting.  Try-Outs will be Monday, February 25th.  The season is almost upon us!
